  • Cat's advice

A cat can perfectly adapt to both a large house and a small apartment. The condition for the trouble-free existence of a purr under your roof is the proper preparation of the environment in which he is to live. What is the most important thing for a cat and what mistakes should not be made? What zones should be designated for a cat at home? You will learn about all of this in the text below.

4 magic cat zones

The cat has many activities at home. He must hunt (at home, hunting replaces play), eat, rest and take care of his physiological needs. Not much, but it all fills him up tightly all day! Importantly, each of these activities is an indispensable element of a cat's life and if the way of its implementation is disturbed - the behavior of the cat itself will be disturbed. That's why it's so important to realize that the 4 cat zones and their separation are essential! What areas are we talking about?

1. The feeding area

The cat should eat several times a day. He has a small stomach and is unable to fill himself up. Therefore, a few small portions of wet food a day is a much better idea than one large dose and dry food available around the clock. Besides - great taste for good behavior and always fresh water in the bowl. Have the waterhole somewhere other than the food bowl. Cats by nature avoid drinking from places close to food sources. And our housemates have to drink a lot of water to be healthy. So the cat's first zone is the feeding zone with always separated space for food and water! And away from the litter box - who would like to eat in the toilet?

2. The killing zone

Fries attach great importance to their toilet. It has to be clean, filled with selected litter, placed in the right place, and of course it has to have that "something" to be accepted. It is the problems with the litter box that are the most common causes of calls to the behaviorist. If health issues are ruled out, focus on the litter box itself. Usually, only then it becomes apparent what negligence was made by the guardian. Do not be surprised that a cat does not want to use its toilet if you put it right next to the dining room, scratching post or lair! A cat's bathroom must have its own separate place in a purring house.

3. Fun zone

Hunting is an integral part of a cat's day. It aims not only to get food, but also to satisfy your instincts, exercise your abilities and use the accumulated energy. For a cat that does not go outside, hunting is replaced by play. And it is not an additional element that is performed when there is time. It is a necessary part of a cat's life that determines its physical and mental health! The cat should have a place to go wild!

4. Rest area

After all these activities, it is finally time to sleep. The cat sleeps most of the day, so it cannot sleep anywhere. It is obvious that a place to sleep, nap or rest must be comfortable. The cat always chooses them himself, but our suggestions are important to him. If you put your cat's lair next to the bowls or litter box - forget that it will use it. On the windowsill, under the radiator - it has a chance to gain recognition. The rest area must be warm, quiet and cozy. It is up to the cat, however, whether it chooses secluded places, or whether it prefers to have everything under control and sleeps in the center of events. Ideally, he should always have plenty of options to consider.

Separation of cat zones

We understand that if you have a small apartment and a cat, it is hard for you to imagine that it should be entirely devoted to the pet. Some would prefer to allocate one corner and stuff it with all kinds of cat accessories - sleeping, bowls, litter box and toys. This is not an option. Each zone of the cat must have a separate area, separate from the others - as much as possible. If you guarantee your cat a separation of zones, the likelihood of problems with cat's behavior will decrease significantly. If you additionally effectively plan the vertical space - a tall scratching post, access to window sills and shelves - you can be sure that a small space will not be a problem.

When planning the arrangement of cat's things on the map of your apartment, remember some important rules. Food bowls must be kept away from the litter box and lair - ideally in a separate room. Also separate the food bowl from the one with water. The litter box must not be in the dining room - this is the most important thing! Although the cat chooses its own place to sleep and often changes it, do not be deceived that it will use an incorrectly placed lair. Here, however, a lot depends on the cat's preferences. When it comes to cat hunting (read: play), the purr may be reluctant to catch the prey near the litter box - the toilet zone is sacred!

If you can, make a few corrections on the cat's house map. Your actions will surely be approved by the purr. Cat's happiness will be your happiness. Separation of zones, especially the most important ones, will also successfully help solve problems with cat's behavior and even health!
